YKM Director Named to Commercial Aviation Work Group

Yakima Air Terminal-McAllister Field (YKM) Director Rob Hodgman has been selected to serve on Washington state’s Commercial Aviation Work Group (CAWG).

The Commercial Aviation Work Group was created by the Legislature in 2023 to evaluate long-range commercial aviation and transportation needs of the state, including alternatives for additional aviation capacity which includes expanding use of existing airports.

The CAWG’s goal is to recommend a workable solution or set of solutions to meet the travel needs of the region.

“I am honored to be invited to join the work group and hope to be able to help address this critical problem,” said Hodgman. “And hopefully the Yakima community can benefit in some way from this appointment.”

Hodgman received his invitation to join the CAWG last Friday, May 23rd. He will serve as one of 11 non-voting members of the work group, which has 19 voting members.

Hodgman was a member of CAWG’s predecessor, the Commercial Aviation Coordinating Commission (CACC), created by the Legislature to develop recommendations to address the state’s critical aviation system capacity needs. He also served as the CACC’s lead planner and is familiar with the challenges the CAWG faces. The CAWG was developed by the Legislature when CACC’s work was completed.

Hodgman has been Yakima’s airport director since March 2023. Prior to that he worked for over 11 years with Washington State Department of Transportation – Aviation, where he began as State Capital Improvement Program Manager before moving to Aviation Senior Planner.
