YKM Terminal Modernization Project Begins Thursday

A multi-phased project to improve and modernize the passenger and cargo terminal building at Yakima Air Terminal-McAllister Field (YKM) begins this Thursday, May 29th.

This first project will provide a new roof and new HVAC units for the terminal. YKM staff are asking for the public’s cooperation as this work gets underway.

“Some of the roof work is on the second floor, but some is on the northwest corner of the building and all of the front area covered sidewalk,” said Airport Director Robert Hodgman. “We appreciate the public’s patience, as the right lane approaching the terminal will be closed during some of the roof construction.”

Vehicles will not be allowed to stop and drop off passengers in the remaining left lane in front of the terminal.

A temporary HVAC unit will provide air conditioning to the building during construction. The unit will be a trailer-mounted machine likely placed near the northwest corner of the building.

It is anticipated the new roof and new HVAC installation will be complete by the end of this October.

Also planned this summer is a baggage claim project this July/August. The Yakima City Council on Tuesday, May 20th, approved a grant application to the FAA for the baggage claim project.

Work is also planned this year to install an overflow parking lot.

City of Yakima and YKM communication platforms will provide updates as needed for the ongoing terminal modernization project.
