Fruit Row Recognition

The Yakima City Council proclaimed September “Harvest Month” in the City of Yakima. The proclamation celebrates agriculture’s contributions to the community and the Fruit Row National Historic District. Fruit Row is the oldest functioning agricultural warehouse district in Yakima County.


Sister City moment

Mayor Patricia Byers distributes City of Yakima pins to students from Itayanagi, Japan. Itayanagi has been Yakima’s sister city since 1972. On July 31st, the City received a delegation from Itayanagi that included about 20 people, including Mayor Taketo Kasai, other city officials, teachers and students.


Work in progress

Quilted corner

National Night Out

This week the Yakima Police Department participated in several neighborhood gatherings to celebrate National Night Out, including this one pictured at Henry Beauchamp Community Center. The annual event is free to the public and provides opportunities to support local first responders, service and non-profit agencies as well as the community. Visit National Night Out (natw.org)


Seeing double

This week’s photo is courtesy Yakima Airport and shows a recent rare occurrence of two aircraft on the ramp at the same time. Passengers will also see double the number of flights between Yakima and Seattle as Alaska Airlines announced it will resume a second daily flight starting Nov. 17th.


Miller Mosaic

This week’s photo shows a water-themed mosaic mural located appropriately near the spray feature at Miller Park. The mosaic is one of several new improvements at Miller Park that was celebrated during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 22nd.


Nelson Celebration

Trail Time
