Sidewalk Repairs to Impact 3rd Avenue Traffic

A sidewalk repair project will impact traffic on a section of 3rd Avenue during the next two weeks. The project involves sidewalks on 3rd Avenue from West Pine Street to Peach Street beginning next Tuesday, May 31st, through Thursday, June 9th. Intermittent lane closures will occur during project work hours of 6:00 am to 4:00


City Plans Closures for Memorial Day

Many of the City of Yakima’s facilities will be closed on Monday, May 30th, in observance of Memorial Day. That includes City Hall, Y-PAC, Public Works, and Parks and Recreation offices. Business offices for the police and fire departments will be closed. Emergency services will remain available. Yakima Transit will not provide bus service Monday.

Yakima Airport Operations Impacted by Traffic Accident

Commercial flights at Yakima Air Terminal-McAllister Field are temporarily canceled due to a motor vehicle accident early this morning, Friday, May 20th, that resulted in serious injuries to the driver and passenger. At about 3:00 am this morning, the driver of a vehicle traveling at an extremely high rate of speed eastbound on Washington Avenue


Harman Center Marks Anniversary With Open House

The City of Yakima Harman Center will celebrate its 18th anniversary with an open house from 1:30 pm to 3:45 pm this Friday, May 20th. “We will provide tours of the center and talk about all of fun things we have going on,” said Recreation Program Supervisor Leslie Richards. Cake and punch will be served.


Yakima City Council May 17th Regular Meeting Review

The Yakima City Council held a regular meeting on Tuesday, May 17th. Action taken by the Council included: Approving an agreement with the Millennium Foundation to install mosaic art at Miller Park; Authorizing grant agreement acceptance from the Department of Commerce through the Community Law Enforcement Partnership Program to implement the “Community Action Days” program;


Clean City Program Reports First Quarter Progress

Abating/cleaning 1,336 incidents of graffiti, clearing over 35 tons of garbage and removing 563 grocery carts are some of the City of Yakima Clean City Program activities during the first three months of 2022.
