In order to better accommodate contractors during the busy spring and summer building seasons, City of Yakima building code inspectors have adjusted the hours they work. Throughout the spring and summer building seasons, the City’s building code inspectors will be working from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm.
“It’s a small thing for us to do to adjust the working hours of our building code inspectors,” said Code Administration Manager Joe Caruso. “We’re just changing the inspectors’ work schedule by one hour on each end. But that relatively small adjustment is a pretty big deal for contractors, especially during the summer when work starts earlier in the day in order to avoid the heat,” said Caruso.
The City’s building code inspectors typically work from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The City’s Code Administration Division will evaluate whether or not inspectors will return to that schedule this fall.
“Our goal is to do whatever we can in order to provide the highest level of customer service possible,” said Caruso. “Adjusting the work schedules of our building code inspectors was actually suggested by the inspectors themselves. We floated the idea by several contractors and they thought it would be very helpful,” said Caruso. “So, we’re giving it a try and will see if it works as well as we anticipate it will.”
The work hours adjustments will apply to the City’s three building code inspectors. Combined, the three inspectors complete an average of more than 7,800 inspections each year.
