The City of Yakima Planning Division has received an application for the construction of a new Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse, which the company is proposing to build on property near the corner of Longfibre Road and Valley Mall Boulevard.

The application was filed on Thursday, August 2nd by Hordan Planning Services, a Yakima urban planning and consulting firm, on behalf of Landmark Engineering and Planning, Inc. (“Landmark”), an engineering and design company based in Nampa, Idaho.  Landmark has helped Lowe’s develop several stores in multiple locations across the country.

The application received by the City is for construction of an 111,000 square foot main building, a 27,000 square foot garden center, and a parking lot with more than 400 spaces.

The City’s Planning Division will initiate its environmental review of the application soon and expects to have it completed by this fall.  As part of its review, the Planning Division will determine what, if any, mitigation measures it believes should be required in order for the application to be approved.

The review process will also include the opportunity for the public, as well as other governmental entities, to provide comment on the application.  Ample notice will be provided prior to the start of the comment period.

Any questions regarding the application or the review process should be directed to Supervising Planner Bruce Benson, who can be contacted by phone at 575-6042 and by e-mail at bbenson@ci.yakima.wa.us.
