The Yakima City Council is seeking volunteers interested in serving on City of Yakima boards, committees, and commissions:
- Yakima Arts Commission currently has two community member position openings.
- Bike/Pedestrian Committee has two position terms ending.
- Board of Appeals currently has two available openings.
- Parks and Recreation has one youth opening.
- Sustainable Yakima Committee has one available opening.
More about the volunteer opportunities:
- Arts Commission members serve 3-year terms. The community member shall be from diverse backgrounds and have no vested interest in any particular art or cultural endeavor.
- The Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee has seven members. Members serve a four-year term and one member may be a resident of Yakima County if they also either own property within the City of Yakima or own a business within the City of Yakima.
- There are seven members on the Board of Appeals who serve three-year terms. The board currently requires a mechanical contractor or a developer to fill one of its vacancies and a building industry individual to fill the other opening.
- Members of the Parks and Recreation Commission must live within Yakima city limits and youth members must be between 16-22 years of age at the time of appointment in order to be eligible to serve a two-year term. Currently, there is one youth vacancy.
- The Sustainable Yakima Committee is comprised of seven members who serve four-year terms. There shall be a preference, but not a requirement, for committee members to have expertise in climate science, engineering, energy management, water conservation, planning, environmental policy making, environmental law, economics, solid waste management, forestry, systems analysis and/or communications.

Anyone interested in applying for openings can submit their application to the City Clerk’s Office no later than Wednesday, November 15, 2023. It is the responsibility of the City Council to appoint people to serve on the governing bodies of those organizations. Applications will be reviewed by the Council Nominating Committee before the end of the month.
