City to Launch Search for New Terminal Director

Yakima City Manager Vicki Baker has announced a search for a new Yakima Air Terminal director will begin soon following the resignation of the current director, Rob Hodgman.  Hodgman’s resignation takes effect on October 31st.

While the director search is underway, airport operations will continue as normal.

“We’re going to be looking for a director who is the right fit for our airport and our community,” said Baker.  “The airport plays a big role in the economic health of the Yakima Valley and we are looking for someone who can strengthen relationships with tenants at the airport, the airport staff, funding partners, etc., as well as managing day-to-day operations and developing a vision for the future of the airport.” said Baker.

Several modernization projects are currently underway at the airport, including replacing outdated electrical and heating and cooling systems in the terminal, replacing the terminal roof, and improving the flow of passengers through the terminal.  Those projects are on schedule and fully funded, with most of the money for them coming from Yakima County and state and federal sources.

Work on a new baggage claim carousel and new restrooms in the terminal will begin soon.  In the near future, one of the airport’s runways will be upgraded and more parking will be added west of the terminal.  Funding for those projects is also in hand.

“The modernization efforts at the airport are important, but adding commercial flights to more destinations will be an increased focus,” said Baker.  “The next director will need to have a broad skill set to ensure the success of the airport.”

Hodgman was hired as the Yakima Air Terminal director in March 2023.

Baker said she expects the search for a new director will be launched within the next few days.
