Parking Lot at Gardner Park to be Paved

City of Yakima crews will be paving the parking lot at the City’s Gardner Park beginning on Monday, September 27th.  The surface of the parking lot has been gravel for many years.

While the project is underway, visitors to the park and residents in the area can expect some minor disruptions.

Gardner Park is located just south of Pierce Street and east of Cornell Avenue.  During the project, which is expected to take about two weeks to complete, traffic along the section of Cornell between Washington Avenue and Pierce Street may be restricted from time to time.  Throughout the project, visitors to the park are being asked to park along Pierce Street.

The project will also include the removal of some trees in the park that are in poor condition.  Replacement trees may be planted in the future.

“The paving of the Gardner Park parking lot is another part of the City’s ongoing efforts to improve our community’s parks,” said City of Yakima Parks & Recreation Manager Ken Wilkinson.  “Yakima is fortunate to have many unique parks and the City is committed to maintaining and improving them,” said Wilkinson.

In addition to passive park areas and a playground, Gardner Park is home to softball fields used by local leagues and during large tournaments that take place in Yakima.
