Permit Center Temporarily Adjusting Hours for Training on New System

The City of Yakima’s Permit Center, which is located on the 2nd floor of Yakima City Hall (129 N. 2nd Street), will temporarily adjust the hours it is open to the public on three days over the next few weeks so staff can be trained on a new computer system.

The Permit Center is normally open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays and from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Wednesdays.  On Thursday April 14th and Thursday April 21st, the Permit Center will open one hour later than usual.  On those two Thursdays, the center will be open to the public from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

On Friday, April 29th, the Permit Center will close at noon and will remain closed the remainder of that day.

The temporary adjustments to the hours the Permit Center will be open on April 14th, April 21st, and April 29th are necessary to allow staff to be trained on new “SMARTGov” software.  The City is transitioning to using SMARTGov software to provide certain services to its customers.  According to its website, SMARTGov provides, “Flexible cloud based solutions that streamline permitting, plan review, code enforcement, inspections, and licensing.”

Full implementation of the SMARTGov software will occur on Monday, May 2nd.

“We’re looking forward to the efficiencies that SMARTGov will bring to our office and the higher level of customer service we’ll be able to provide,” said Code Administration Manager Joe Caruso.  “We’re adjusting the Permit Center hours for a few days so that our staff will be ready to go when we launch SMARTGov on May 2nd.”

During the Permit Center’s temporary hours adjustments, the City’s Engineering Division, which is usually accessible through the Permit Center, will be able to be reached by phone at 575-6111.
