Rebuild and Expansion of 10-Block Section of River Road Getting Underway

Major improvements are being made to a heavily-used section of River Road that provides access to numerous businesses as well as to Yakima School District’s Stanton Academy.  The 10-block section of River Road between 6th Avenue and 16th Avenue will be reconstructed and widened, and new curbs, gutters, sidewalks, lighting, and stormwater system infrastructure will be installed.

Granite Construction Company is serving as the primary contractor for the project, which will get underway on Monday, June 10th and is expected to take until late August or early September to complete.  The hours of work during the week of June 10th through June 14th will be 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.

While the project is ongoing, traffic delays on River Road between 6th Avenue and 16th Avenue are likely to occur.  Intermittent lane closures will reduce traffic to one lane only at various times.  Flaggers will be in place to help drivers navigate through the construction zone.

Access to homes and businesses in the area will be maintained and emergency vehicles will be allowed through the project area if necessary.

As always, the schedule for this type of project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.
