Water is again flowing in a canal owned by New Schanno Canal Company. The canal was shut down last Friday after City of Yakima crews discovered a root ball was preventing the flow of water through the canal serving the Lenox and 9th Avenue systems. The problem affected approximately 1,400 City of Yakima irrigation customers.

The City of Yakima Water/Irrigation Division and New Schanno Canal Company completed emergency repairs on Wednesday afternoon and customers in the affected area should have full irrigation water pressure.

The Lenox System serves the area from Voelker Avenue to 12th Avenue between Nob Hill Boulevard and Mead Avenue. The 9th Avenue System serves and area from 7th Avenue to 10th Avenue between Baker Street and Nob Hill.

Customers who have used domestic water to irrigate since last Friday should see a financial credit to offset the difference between irrigation and domestic water rates.

The City thanks its customers for their patience during this inconvenience. Customers who have questions about the canal shutoff can contact the City of Yakima’s Water/Irrigation Division at 575-6194.
