A sidewalk improvement project in the Apple Valley Elementary area that began in mid-July will continue to impact traffic through late August.
The portion of 88th Avenue between Tieton Drive and Summitview Avenue is closed to all but local traffic while the project is underway.
The portion of 88th Avenue between Tieton Drive and Summitview Avenue remains closed to through traffic, but is open to local traffic to residents of 88th Avenue, Wood Winds Way, and Alpine Court. Full closure of that portion of 88th Avenue is likely to occur intermittently throughout the project.
Drivers who might usually travel on Chestnut Avenue, Yakima Avenue, or Barge Street should use alternate routes, such as 90th Avenue or 96th Avenue, until the work is completed.
The project includes the installation of new curbs and sidewalks, ADA-compliant ramps, new crosswalks, lighting, and storm structure improvements. The project is being paid for with a grant from the Washington State Department of Transportation Safe Routes to Schools program.
Drivers are encouraged to slow down and proceed cautiously through work zones.
As always, the schedule for this type of project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.
