Volunteer Opportunities on City Aquatics Ad Hoc Committee

The Yakima City Council is asking volunteers interested in serving on a City of Yakima Aquatics Ad Hoc Committee to submit applications to the City Clerk’s office.

In late May of this year, the Council decided to create an ad hoc committee to research the potential of constructing a new City-owned public pool that would be located on the east side of Yakima.  The ad hoc committee will consist of three City Council members, three members of the Yakima Parks & Recreation Commission, and three community members.

Applications are now being accepted for the three community member positions on the Aquatics Ad Hoc Committee.  Applicants need to live within Yakima city limits and should have an interest in aquatics and other positive youth development opportunities.

Anyone interested in applying for the community member positions on the Aquatics Ad Hoc Committee can download an application from the City of Yakima website by clicking on the following link – http://bit.ly/2sWksrr – or can pick up an application at the City Clerk’s office at Yakima City Hall.  Applicants need to check “Other” is Section B of the application and write in “Aquatics Ad Hoc Committee”.

The deadline for applications for the City of Yakima Aquatics Ad Hoc Committee to be submitted is Wednesday, July 12th.

It is expected that the ad hoc committee will meet no more than six times.  Applicants will make a statement regarding why they want to serve on the committee at a meeting set for Monday, July 17th at 5:00 pm in the 2nd floor conference room at Yakima City Hall (129 N. 2nd Street).  The three community members who will serve on the ad hoc committee will then be selected.

Ultimately, the ad hoc committee will present its findings to the full Yakima City Council.  A specific time for the ad hoc committee’s presentation to the Council has not been set as yet.
