Wastewater Line Installation Project Will Close Parts of “I” Street and 6th Avenue

Contact: Utility Engineer Shelley Willson – 576-6303

“I” Street between 5th Avenue and 6th Avenue will be open to local traffic only during the weekend of March 1st to March 3rd.  The center of the roadway will be blocked due to the construction and trenching necessary for the installation of an industrial waste water line.

Starting on Monday, March 4th, “I” Street between 5th Avenue and 6th Avenue will be closed.  Crews from TTC Construction, a Yakima-based contracting firm, will be working to install the 12-inch diameter line.

Beginning on March 6th, 6th Avenue between Fruitvale Boulevard and River Road will also be closed.  TTC will be boring under the Yakima Valley Trolley Lines next week to install the line.  Work will also include a deep trench operation for the installation of pipe on 6th Avenue between “I” Street and Madison Avenue.

Traffic controls will be in place while the project is underway to help drivers navigate detour routes.

While work is ongoing, traffic delays in the project areas are likely to occur.  Drivers should use alternate routes if possible until the projects are completed.

Access to businesses in the areas will be maintained and emergency vehicles will be allowed through the project area if necessary.

As always, the schedule for these types of projects is subject to change daily, dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.
