Accelerated Construction & Excavating of Plummer, Idaho will begin construction on the East Viola Avenue (I-82) and South 22nd Street Water Main Replacement Project on Monday, May 22nd.
The project will take place on East Viola Avenue from Rudkin Road to South 22nd Street (crossing I-82) and on South 22nd Street approximately 400 feet north of East Viola Avenue. The project will include installation of 200 feet of 30-inch steel casing with a new 12-inch ductile iron waterline under I-82 by boring/jacking, so there will be no disturbance of the WSDOT right- of-way. The project also includes installation of approximately 400 feet of new 12-inch ductile iron waterline in South 22nd Street north of East Viola Avenue.
The project will replace an existing waterline that is undersized and deteriorating, thereby improving system performance and fire flows in the vicinity.
During the project, construction equipment, such as backhoes and dump trucks, will be used. Traffic control devices will be used in the areas of construction and will route traffic around the areas of construction. Although access may be temporarily restricted in the immediate areas of construction, access will be maintained for surrounding businesses.
Drivers are reminded that the speed limit through all traffic-related works zones within the City of Yakima is 20 miles-per-hour.
During the project, traffic delays in the area are likely to occur. Drivers should use alternate routes until the project is completed.
As always, the schedule for this type of a project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.
Funding for the project is provided from the City’s Water Capital Improvement budget.
Customers who have questions about the project are encouraged to contact Water/Irrigation Engineer Mike Shane at 576-6480.
