Yakima City Manager Finalists Scheduled to be in Town May 9th & 10th

Finalists for the Yakima city manager position will attend a reception open to the community on the evening of Monday, May 9th and will then be interviewed on Tuesday, May 10th.

The Prothman Company, the executive search firm hired by the Yakima City Council to oversee the city manager hiring process, proposed the May 9th and 10th dates as part of its original recruitment schedule.  Today City staff confirmed facilities are available for the reception and interviews those days.

The Yakima city manager position was advertised from late February through mid-April.  From a total of 20 applicants, The Prothman Company presented the Yakima Council with a pool of eight semi-finalists.  During an April 25th executive session, the City Council reviewed the semi-finalist pool.

The number of candidates that will be included in the finalist pool and the format for the May 10th interviews will likely be announced by the Council at its May 3rd business meeting.  Once the finalist candidates have been notified, their names will be released.

The Monday, May 9th community reception will take place at the Yakima Convention Center in the lobby outside the South Ballroom.  The reception is scheduled to last from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and will be open to anyone wanting to meet the finalist candidates.

In January of this year, the City Council launched a process to find a replacement for Tony O’Rourke, who served as Yakima city manager from July 2012 through December 2015.
