Yakima Transit Route 6 South Detoured Because of Sewer Main Project

Because of a sewer main interceptor construction project underway on Beech Street, Yakima Transit Route 6 South is being detoured temporarily.  As a result, Route 6 South will not include service to the Walmart Supercenter located at 1600 East Chestnut Avenue for the duration of the sewer main interceptor project.

Instead of following their normal course down Beech Street to the Walmart Supercenter, Route 6 South buses will instead head north on Fair Avenue as they usually do, pass Beech Street, turn south on 6th Street to Walnut Avenue, and continue on to the Downtown Yakima Transit Center (105 South 4th Street).

The sewer main interceptor construction project began on August 29th and is expected to take two months or longer to complete.  The detour of Yakima Transit Route 6 South will remain in place until the sewer main interceptor project is completed.

The sewer main interceptor construction project will be completed in phases and will eventually extend west along Beech Street to Fair Avenue.  To allow the project to be completed as efficiently and safely as possible, sections of Beech Street will be periodically closed to all traffic.  The City of Yakima will issue updated news releases as the project progresses announcing which and when streets adjacent to the project area will be closed.
