Wastewater Line Project Will Close Sections of 16th Avenue and J Street

An ongoing wastewater line installation project will result in temporary closures of a section of 16th Avenue from Sunday, April 14th through Friday, April 19th.  The closures, which will take place overnight from 7:00 pm until 6:00 am, will affect the section of 16th Avenue between Fruitvale Boulevard and River Road.

During daylight hours, one lane in each direction of 16th Avenue will be open to traffic.  Drivers will be directed through the construction zone and to available detour routes.

Traffic on J Street will also be impacted during the week.  Between 6th Avenue and 8th Avenue,

J Street will only be open to local traffic.  The entrance to the DSHS office from J Street will be closed at times.  Access to the DSHS building from 16th Avenue will be provided throughout the week.

Crews from TTC Construction, a Yakima-based contracting firm, have been working to install the 12-inch diameter line since earlier this year.  The latest phase of the project will include a deep trench operation for the installation of the pipeline crossing 16th Avenue south of Madison Avenue.

During the project, traffic delays in the area are likely to occur.  Drivers should use alternate routes if possible until the project is completed.

Access to businesses in the area will be maintained and emergency vehicles will be allowed through the project area if necessary.

As always, the schedule for this type of project is subject to change daily dependant on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.
