Community Christmas Tree Sought for Downtown Yakima

The City of Yakima and the Downtown Association of Yakima are seeking nominations for this year’s Community Christmas Tree. Residents are invited to nominate evergreen trees from their property to become the centerpiece of the holiday festivities in downtown Yakima.

Eligible trees should be well-shaped evergreens, standing 35 to 50 feet tall, with easy access for removal. The ideal tree will be situated in an area that can accommodate a 25-foot by 45-foot crane and nearby space for a 50-foot trailer.

Nominations are open until a final selection is made on November 9th. The selected tree will be cut and lifted by crane, not felled, on November 18th, ensuring a safe and efficient removal process the same day. It will then be installed at Millennium Plaza in preparation for a special tree-lighting ceremony scheduled for December 6th.

To nominate a tree, please contact Cally Price, Assistant to the City Manager, by phone at 509-575-6040

The Downtown Association of Yakima is collaborating with the City of Yakima, the Yakima Police Department, and community partners Russell Crane and Carrell Crane to coordinate the tree’s removal, transport, and installation.

After a nomination is received, a representative from the Downtown Association will contact the tree owner to discuss a suitable time to assess the tree and its accessibility.

The tree owner of the selected tree will not incur any costs related to the removal.
