First Friday Kickoff Set for New Windows Alive! Art Display

Empty storefronts in Downtown Yakima will come alive again on Friday, April 6th when the talents of local artists are put on public display.  The Yakima Arts Commission, an advisory group appointed by the Yakima City Council, developed the idea to harness the creativity of Central Washington artists.

“It’s always exciting to see the new artwork,” said Yakima Arts Commission Chair Noel Moxley. “Windows Alive! is a wonderful program that continues to add to the vibrancy of Downtown Yakima.”

The kickoff for the latest Windows Alive! will take place at 5:30 pm on April 6th. Art will be displayed in storefront windows located along the north side of Yakima Avenue between 3rd Street and 4th Street.

The event will be held in conjunction with “First Friday” activities in Downtown Yakima, which showcases local wineries, restaurants and shops with specials and entertainment.

Artists selected for the latest “Windows Alive!” exhibition include John T. Bissonette, Janet Buege, Kristi Donahue, Scott and Robin Mayberry, and Steven Platt.

The City of Yakima’s Public Works Department will also have a “Windows Alive!” display, an exhibit featuring the process it uses to wrap art around traffic signal boxes.

The new Windows Alive! exhibits are scheduled to be on display through Friday, September 14th.
