Irrigation Line Break Prompts Work on Englewood Avenue

Work is underway on a section of Englewood Avenue due to a sink hole that developed following an irrigation line break.

The Yakima Tieton Irrigation District had a main line break this morning, Thursday, June 19th that resulted in a closure of Englewood Avenue between 40th and 44th Avenues.

At about 1:00 pm today, a sinkhole of about 3-feet in diameter developed in the roadway.

Yakima Tieton crews filled the sinkhole and Englewood re-opened at about 3:00 pm today.

Starting at about 6:30 am tomorrow, Friday, the Yakima Tieton Irrigation District crew will repair the sinkhole. Englewood Avenue will not be closed tomorrow, however, a turn lane will be used for westbound traffic in the area of 40th Avenue and Englewood Avenue.

The irrigation district will provide traffic control during the work on Englewood Avenue tomorrow. It’s expected that work will wrap up by about 3:00 pm tomorrow.

Motorists are reminded that the speed limit through all traffic-related work zones within the City of Yakima is 20 miles-per-hour.

During the project, traffic delays in the area are likely to occur. Drivers should use alternate routes until the project is completed.

Access to businesses in the project area will be maintained as best as possible.

As always, the schedule for this type of a project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.
