Second Count of Primary Election Returns Released

The second count of returns for the 2017 Primary Election had little effect on the three Yakima City Council positions being contested when compared to the initial count on election night.  Only the top two vote getters in each race move on to the November 7th General Election.

In Yakima City Council District 2, Pablo Gonzalez built on his election night lead and now has 35.53% of the vote compared to the 34.13% he had after the first count.  Jason White has 23.37% (vs. 25.26% after the first count). Maud Scott has 20.60% (vs. 20.14% on election night) and incumbent Councilmember Avina Gutiérrez has 20.35 % of the vote (vs. 20.14% after the first count).

Keith Effler continues to lead the six contenders in District 4 with 27.33% of the vote (compared to 29.63% on election night.  Kay Funk has 24.05 % (compared to 22.36% on election night).  Chelsea Mack is next with 19.61% of the vote (compared to 19.60% on election night). Sandra Belzer, who had the fifth most votes on election night, has moved into 4th place with 11.80% (compared to 10.68% on election night).  Tony Sandoval, who had the fourth most votes on election night, has moved into 5th place with 11.62% (compared to 12.89% on election night). Williams has 5.06% (compared to 4.52% on election night).

In District 6, Brad Hill has built on his election night lead and now has 74.03% of the vote (vs. 73.62% after the first count), and Macaela Razo has 13.94% (vs. 13.80% after the first count).  Joe Mann’s name appears on the ballot for District 6, but Mann withdrew from the race.  His withdrawl took place too late to have his named removed from the official ballot.  Still, Mann has received 11.92% of the vote (vs. 12.45% after the first count).

Additional ballot counts will be conducted over the next few days.  Ballot counts will continue periodically until all of the ballots that were received before the midnight August 1st deadline have been tabulated.  The 2017 Primary Election will be certified on August 15th.
