Street Closures set for 35th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Peace March

Drivers will find sections of some streets temporarily closed Monday, January 20th for the 35th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Peace March.

The march will begin at 12:00 pm on Monday and is expected to conclude at 1:00 pm. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard will be closed from North 6th Avenue to North 8th Street. In addition, 8th Street will be closed from Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard to Yakima Avenue.

Participants will begin the march at Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and 5th Avenue. From there, they will proceed east on the boulevard to 8th Street. They will then head south on 8th Street to the Yakima Convention Center, 10 North 8th Street.

The Yakima Police Department will escort marchers along the route.

Yakima Transit will provide two buses for participants with disabilities.

Organizers said the procession in honor of the slain civil rights leader is a peace and unity march that is open to the public. They expect approximately 400 participants.
