Trial Run Continues for Ellensburg Commuter

A grant-funded trial program that provides an extra morning route for Yakima Transit’s Ellensburg Commuter is entering its second month.

The trial run is for 3 months, through the end of March, and may be extended depending on rider response.

“We’ve added a morning run to see how much demand there would be to get people to Ellensburg or Yakima just before 8:00 a.m. instead of them having to wait for an extended period of time,” said Yakima Transit Manager Alvie Maxey. “We’re in the process of getting feedback from passengers through surveys.”

The trial run is one of 8 daily trips each way that the Commuter provides between Yakima and Ellensburg. The commuter makes 8 stops during each of its runs.

The presence of Central Washington University in Ellensburg and Yakima Valley College in Yakima were factors in launching the morning trial run.

“A good part of the ridership is students and faculty from both schools,” Maxey said.

An update on the Ellensburg Commuter trial run will be discussed during Yakima Transit’s Citizens Advisory Committee meeting from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 7th, in the Public Works Department’s large training room, 2301 Fruitvale Boulevard.
