A project to replace the existing water main and services along a section of South 2nd Avenue is nearing completion.
The existing 12-inch, 100-year-old cast-iron water main is being replaced with a new 12-inch ductile iron water main, including new system valves, fire hydrants and water services. Replacement will greatly reduce any on-going maintenance or future repairs.
Tri-Valley Construction of Yakima has completed the installation in South 2nd Avenue between Division Street and West Pine Street.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, July 9th and 10th, the contractor will make a final connection between the new water line and the existing water system in Division Street. Excavation will take place during the day, as well as during the evening hours until midnight both days.
During the work, South 2nd Avenue and Division Street will be closed to thru traffic in the areas of construction, although local access to businesses will be maintained as best as possible. Emergency vehicles will be allowed through the project area when necessary.
Temporary water outages will occur while the new system is being placed into service. A minimum of 24-hours advanced notice will be provided for effected customers.
