Treemendous Teamwork!

Yakima’s Community Christmas Tree was installed downtown on Nov. 22nd thanks to a team effort by crews from the City of Yakima, Downtown Association of Yakima, Russell Crane and Carrell Crane & Heavy Hauling, Inc. Following the Holiday Lighted Parade on Sunday, Dec. 1st, the tree will be lit during a ceremony at Millennium Plaza.

Sister City Assist

The Yakima Fire Dept. and local community members worked together to provide Morelia, Mexico – Yakima’s Sister City – with a fire truck. It was presented to a delegation from Morelia on Nov. 20th.

Treat Time

SunComm hosted its second annual trunk or treat for the community on Saturday, Oct. 26th. Several local first responders participated in the event, held at SunComm’s parking lot.

Hop Art

A photo of hops adorns a utility box along 40th Avenue. It’s one in a series of utility boxes that have been wrapped in artwork throughout the City of Yakima. Visit Yakima Arts Commission | City Council (yakimawa.gov) for more about this and other community art projects within the city.

Fruit Row Recognition

The Yakima City Council proclaimed September “Harvest Month” in the City of Yakima. The proclamation celebrates agriculture’s contributions to the community and the Fruit Row National Historic District. Fruit Row is the oldest functioning agricultural warehouse district in Yakima County.

Oath of Office

Yakima City Clerk Rosalinda Ibarra administers the oath of office for Vicki Baker during the City Council meeting on Aug. 5th. Baker is Yakima’s new City Manager.

Sister City moment

Mayor Patricia Byers distributes City of Yakima pins to students from Itayanagi, Japan. Itayanagi has been Yakima’s sister city since 1972. On July 31st, the City received a delegation from Itayanagi that included about 20 people, including Mayor Taketo Kasai, other city officials, teachers and students.
