Acceleration Lane Project to Impact S. 48th Ave, W. Washington Ave

A project to improve traffic flow at the intersection of West Washington Avenue and South 48th Avenue will require lane closures on Thursday, October 13th.

  • S. 48th Avenue will be closed to southbound traffic just north of W. Washington Avenue.
  • W. Washington Avenue will be one lane each way in the area of the intersection, extending about one-quarter mile in each direction from S. 48th Avenue.

Traffic restrictions will be in place from approximately 8:30 am to 3:30 pm Thursday.

The acceleration lane will allow drivers to adjust the speed of their vehicles to the speed of traffic with which they are merging. This lane will be used by drivers traveling east on West Washington Avenue after turning left from South 48th Avenue.

Drivers are reminded the speed limit through all traffic-related work zones within the City of Yakima is 20 miles-per-hour.

During the project, traffic delays in the area are likely to occur. Drivers should use alternate routes until the project is completed.

Access to businesses in the project area will be maintained as best as possible.

As always, the schedule for this type of a project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.
