Air Stagnation Advisory Extended for Yakima Area

The National Weather Service (“NWS”) has extended an air stagnation advisory for the Yakima area through 12:00 pm next Tuesday, December 12th.

The advisory, originally issued on Tuesday, December 5th, was scheduled to end at 12:00 pm today.

The NWS said it is extending the advisory because an upper level ridge will persist over the Pacific Northwest into next week. This ridge will cause air movement to be limited over portions of the region, NWS officials said. Areas of freezing fog will be possible at times.

As a result, the air quality will remain moderate to unhealthy. Those with respiratory issues should follow the advice of their physician on how to deal with poor air quality, the advisory said.

The Yakima Regional Clean Air Agency declared a Stage 2 burn ban on Monday, December 4th.
