Yard waste collection in the City of Yakima will begin Friday, March 1st. The City’s Refuse Division will provide weekly yard waste pick-up from March 1st through November 30th. “Please have the green yard waste cart available by 6:00 a.m. on the curb on the day of scheduled pick-up,” said Communications & Public Affairs Director

Responding to more than 2,200 graffiti incidents, contacting more than 3,700 individuals experiencing homelessness and clearing more than 183 tons of garbage were some of the City of Yakima Clean City Program activities in 2023. The City’s Traffic Operations Division asks drivers to be aware of temporary traffic signal outages over the next two to three months. Outages will be about five minutes or less and are required for annual traffic signal maintenance. The City of Yakima has 115 intersections with traffic signals. Work will take place Monday through Thursday
The City of Yakima has recently become aware of allegations and the subsequent arrest of a former employee, Elias Huizar, by the West Richland Police Department. Huizar has not been employed by the City of Yakima since February 2022. The investigation of the allegations against Huizar is being conducted by the West Richland Police Department.
