Broken Pipe Interrupts City Irrigation Service

A broken pipe in Arlington Street that provides irrigation water to the City of Yakima’s Arlington System will be temporary shut off this evening at 9:00 pm.  As a result, no irrigation water will be available in the area of town bordered by Tieton   Drive and Nob Hill Boulevard between South 34th Avenue and South 26th Avenue.

The temporary shut down of the Arlington System means about 250 homes will be without irrigation service until the pipe can be repaired.

Repairs to the pipe are expected to begin tomorrow (Wednesday, July 3rd) morning and irrigation service will most likely be restored to the Arlington System customers by late afternoon on Wednesday.

“We will do everything we can to get the pipe repaired even sooner,” said Irrigation Supervisor Alvie Maxey.  “Repairs can’t start until Wednesday morning because we need to allow some time for the pipe to drain.  We’re sorry for any inconvenience the temporary shutdown might cause Arlington System customers,” said Maxey.  “The system will be back up and running as soon as possible.”

Customers who have questions about the temporary Arlington System shutoff can contact the City of Yakima’s Water/Irrigation Division at 575-6194.
