City Council to Hold First Bond Meeting for Plaza

The Yakima City Council will begin discussions on bond funding for the Yakima Central Plaza project during a study session from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Monday, February 5th.

The study session will take place in the Council Chambers at Yakima City Hall, 129 North 2nd Street. It comes a little more than a month after the volunteer Downtown Plaza Committee presented the Council with a check for more than $9.6 million in private donations for the plaza.

The City Council in July 2016 committed $3 million in funds towards the $11.9 million project and has so far spent about $1.2 million on design, environmental review, utility relocation, and other preliminary work.

The February 5th study session is a step towards funding the City’s portion of the plaza.

The purpose of the plaza is to stimulate new business development and jobs, as well as provide a gathering and event space.

The Yakima City Council study session will be aired live at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, February 5th on Y-PAC, Charter Cable channel 194.

The meeting will also be streamed live at 9:30 a.m. on February 5th on the City of Yakima website – http://www.yakimawa.gov/.
