City Offers One-Stop Site for Housing Information

The City of Yakima’s housing action plan, results of a housing survey and monthly statistics for building permits issued and new residential units completed are just a few of the links on the Planning Division’s recently updated housing information page at Housing Information | Planning Division (yakimawa.gov)

The page also includes links to quarterly housing action plan reports provided to the Yakima City Council.

“We appreciate the community’s help in telling us about their housing needs,” said Planning Manager Joseph Calhoun. “The goal of our housing page is a one-stop site for City housing information, as well as to support and encourage new housing production to provide more housing choices and address local needs.”

The page is also linked in a new “Point of Interest” at the top of the City of Yakima website, www.yakimawa.gov

The City of Yakima continues to see growth in housing. During the third quarter of 2021 (July – Sept) the Planning Division reported completion of 102 new residential housing units, resulting in 231 new living units and/or bedrooms. That information as well as examples of recent developments related to housing are included in the new “Point of Interest”

The Housing Action Plan, adopted by the Yakima City Council in June 2021, has four primary areas of focus:

  • Provide more housing types and opportunities within existing neighborhoods
  • Home ownership opportunities for low- and moderate-income families
  • Housing solutions for seniors and elderly residents
  • Temporary and permanent supportive housing for those struggling with homelessness.
