City Repairing Pedestrian Crossing, Street Lighting at 44th Avenue and Summitview Avenue

Repairs are underway for a signalized pedestrian crossing and street lighting that were knocked out yesterday, Wednesday, due to a fire in the 4400 block of West Summitview Avenue.

The fire early Wednesday morning, August 16th, involved arborvitaes in the area that also burned a Pacific Power pole where the City had electrical service for the signalized crossing and street lighting.

Work is underway to install a new wooden power pole and restore electrical service for the crossing and street lights.

“With the Yakima School District starting classes next Tuesday, August 22nd, every effort is being made to get this promptly repaired,” said Public Works Director Scott Schafer. “We anticipate having the pedestrian crossing and street lighting in the area back in operation prior to the start of the school year.”

Drivers are reminded the speed limit through all traffic-related work zones within the City of Yakima is 20 miles-per-hour.
