City Seeks Input on Pedestrian Master Plan

A draft of the City of Yakima’s first pedestrian master plan is now available for review by the community. The entire 103-page document can be found at Yakima-Pedestrian-Master-Plan-Design-Guide_-Public-Draft_20210915-2.pdf (yakimawa.gov)

Comments about the draft can be submitted by e-mailing ask.planning@yakimawa.gov

The City of Yakima Planning Division asks that all comments be submitted by October 4th.

The draft document includes an overview of public input that helped guide recommendations in the pedestrian master plan. In addition to recommendations regarding pedestrian access, the plan summarizes both challenges and possible solutions to help Yakima become a more walkable, accessible city.

“The objective of the Yakima Pedestrian Master Plan is to create a safe, complete, and connected pedestrian network that supports travel for people of all ages and abilities,” said Senior Planner Trevor Martin. “We appreciate the many community members who provided us feedback about pedestrian access in Yakima. We also look forward to receiving the public’s input on the draft pedestrian master plan.”

Beginning in November 2020, the City of Yakima sought public input for the plan through community surveys with questions ranging from walking frequency and destinations, to barriers that prevent walking more often. In addition, the City offered an interpretive public input map, virtual town hall and walking tours to receive public comment.
