Community Christmas Tree Arrives November 19th

Preparations are under way for the arrival of Yakima’s Community Christmas Tree tomorrow, Thursday, November 19th.

The tree arrival at Millennium Plaza is estimated to be between 11:00 am and 12:00 pm tomorrow.

The Downtown Association of Yakima (DAY) crew, with assistance from the City of Yakima, will secure a tree provided by a Yakima-area residence, move the tree to Millennium Plaza, and secure the tree into the ground.

Crews from DAY and the City will practice social-distancing precautions as required due to COVID-19.

The tree’s arrival will not impact traffic, though parking spaces adjacent to Millennium Plaza on 3rd Street will be closed to accommodate the installation.

Plans for transporting the tree to Downtown Yakima tomorrow are subject to change dependent on weather and equipment.

Volunteers with DAY will be hanging lights on trees in the Plaza area next week.

Downtown Yakima’s annual Holiday Lighted Parade is canceled this year due to COVID-19 restrictions on gatherings.

DAY is planning a virtual tree-lighting ceremony sometime after Thanksgiving Day.
