Community Meeting Being Held at Seasons to Address Crime Issues

Safe Yakima Valley, a Yakima-based non-profit dedicated to improving and safeguarding communities in the area, is coordinating a community meeting on Thursday, April 14th beginning at 5:30 pm at The Season Performance Hall (101 North Naches Avenue) to discuss issues related to crime and violence.

The meeting is being called in light of shootings that have taken place over the past few weeks in Yakima and Union Gap that have resulted in the deaths of five people.

“The community meeting at The Seasons will provide an opportunity for people to learn about what efforts are being made to address crime and violence in our area and to give them a chance to share their thoughts,” said Safe Yakima Valley Executive Director Carmen Méndez, who is also a member of the Yakima City Council.  “It is important for there to be an opportunity for the community to come together and collectively discuss these issues.  The meeting on Thursday at The Seasons offers people that chance,” said Méndez.

In addition to the general public, local elected officials have been invited to attend the meeting along with members of area law enforcement agencies, representatives of the court system, business owners, and other community leaders.

The doors of The Seasons Performance Hall will open at 4:30 pm the day of the community meeting.  The discussion will begin at 5:30 pm.
