The public will have its first look at the recently completed Yakima Convention Center expansion project during an open house from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm this Friday, May 14th.
During the open house, community members are invited to tour the expansion and ask questions of Convention Center staff. The Yakima Convention Center is located at 10 North 8th Street.
Those attending the open house are asked to enter through the main entrance through the outdoor plaza on 8th Street. COVID-19 protocols will be in place, so face coverings and social distancing guidelines will be required.
Construction for the project began in February 2020. The expansion adds more than 18,000 square feet of needed exhibit and support space.
The project did not require any funds from the City of Yakima’s general fund, nor fees or taxes to local residents. It was funded through an existing Public Facilities District state sales tax rebate and a lodging tax paid by visitors staying at hotels and motels.
