Crack Sealing Project to Impact Traffic on Fruitvale

A project involving “crack sealing” will impact traffic along a portion of Fruitvale Boulevard from Monday, December 4th through Friday, December 8th.

City of Yakima crews will be filing cracks along the section of Fruitvale from 40th Avenue to 16th Avenue from December 4th through December 8th.  Work on the project will take place from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm each day.

Crews will begin working on the project at 40th Avenue and move east.  Traffic restrictions will be in place while the project is underway.  Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction in the immediate area where work is being done at any given time.  In other words, traffic restrictions (one lane in each direction) will “float” as the project moves east throughout the week.

Crack sealing is one of the most inexpensive forms of road maintenance and is an effective method of preventing water from penetrating the roadbed and causing further damage including, most notably, potholes.  Cracks caused by fatigue, changes in temperature, regular traffic use, etc. are first cleaned using pressurized air.  Cracks are then filled with an asphalt emulsion, thereby preserving not only the roadbed, but the pavement adjacent to the cracks.

Drivers are reminded that the speed limit through all traffic-related works zones within the City of Yakima is 20 miles-per-hour.

During the project, traffic delays in the area are likely to occur.  Drivers should use alternate routes until the project is completed.

Access to homes and businesses in the project area will be maintained as best as possible.

As always, the schedule for this type of a project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.
