Crack Sealing Project to Impact Traffic on Nob Hill

A project involving “crack sealing” will impact traffic along a portion of Nob Hill Boulevard on Wednesday, March 11th.

City of Yakima crews will be filling cracks along the section of Nob Hill between 18th Street and 8th Street on March 11th.  Work on the project will take place from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.

Traffic restrictions will be in place along the section of Nob Hill being crack sealed.  Flaggers will be on site to assist drivers in navigating the project area.

Crack sealing is one of the most inexpensive forms of road maintenance and is an effective method of preventing water from penetrating the roadbed and causing further damage including, most notably, potholes.  Cracks caused by fatigue, changes in temperature, regular traffic use, etc. are first cleaned using pressurized air.  Cracks are then filled with an asphalt emulsion, thereby preserving not only the roadbed, but the pavement adjacent to the cracks.

Drivers are reminded that the speed limit through all traffic-related works zones within the City of Yakima is 20 miles-per-hour.

During the project, traffic delays in the area are likely to occur.  Drivers should use alternate routes until the project is completed.

Access to homes and businesses in the project area will be maintained as best as possible.

As always, the schedule for this type of a project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.
