Expansion of Park and Ride Lot Will Result in Temporary Closure

A project that will more than double the number of parking spaces at the Selah Firing Center Road Park and Ride lot will result in the existing lot being closed from Saturday, August 9th through Monday, August 18th.

The Park and Ride lot, which is located adjacent to a gas station and mini-mart at 51 Firing Center Road, is being expanded from its current 45 spaces to 116 spaces. The project, which is being entirely funded by a grant from the Washington State Department of Transportation, will cost about $240,000.

While the project is underway, drivers who normally use the lot are encouraged to find alternative parking arrangements. A limited number of spaces will be available in a temporary lot that will be located just east of the existing lot at the Firing Center Road gas station and mini-mart.

An expansion of the Park and Ride lot became necessary due to its popularity. On any given weekday, the lot is at or even over capacity. The lot is typically utilized by a variety of commuters, including those that board the Yakima-Ellensburg Commuter bus at the Firing Center Road gas station and mini-mart.

As always, the schedule for this type of a project is subject to change daily dependent on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.
