Fire Damages 4th Street Apartment Building

One person was injured and approximately 40 people were evacuated this morning, Wednesday, due to a fire at an apartment building on South 4th Street near Downtown Yakima. (It is the practice of the Yakima Fire Department to not release the specific address of a private home involved in a fire or other emergency response)

Yakima Fire Department (YFD) crews responded to the call of a third-floor apartment on fire at about 10:00 am this morning.

One resident was injured and taken to a hospital for treatment of facial burns.

Approximately 40 residents of the apartment building, and their pets, were evacuated and transported in a Yakima Transit bus to a Red Cross shelter. The Yakima Police Department assisted with the evacuation.

The fire caused an estimated $50,000 in damages.

Approximately 25 YFD firefighters were on scene responding to the fire.

The cause of the fire appears to be accidental and remains under investigation.
