Fire Damages Cornell Avenue Home

Damage to a house in the 600 block of Cornell Avenue in Yakima is estimated to be about $75,000 following a fire Tuesday morning. (It is the practice of the Yakima Fire Department to not release the specific address of a private home involved in a fire or other emergency response)

Yakima Fire Department (YFD) crews responded to a call of a house fire in the 600 block of Cornell Avenue at about 7:30 am Tuesday.  The five people living in the home (two adults and two children in the downstairs unit, one adult in the upstairs unit), as well as four dogs that were inside, safely exited the building.  The two children and the one adult living in the upstairs unit were treated for smoke inhalation at a local hospital.

The house, which was extensively damaged by fire, smoke, and water, is estimated to be worth about $150,000.  The five people displaced by the fire are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and remains under investigation.
