Food, Fun, and Information on Tap at Keeping Cool With Safety School

Local first responders and Yakima area businesses are teaming up to provide the family-friendly “Keeping Cool With Safety School” on Saturday, October 8th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm in a Valley Mall parking lot.

The event will feature safety training and safety demonstrations along with an opportunity to meet and talk with members of police and fire departments who serve the local area.  Kids and parents will also have the chance to play games and enjoy hot dogs, chips, and pop throughout the day.

The October 8th “Keeping Cool With Safety School” is free to attend.  All of the activities at the event as well as the food and drinks will be provided to attendees free of charge.

“This is a great opportunity for the whole family to learn more about what they can do to stay as safe as possible,” said Julie Schilling, one of the event’s organizers.  “It’s a fun way to get some very valuable information about how each of us can contribute to the overall safety of the community.”

The “Keeping Cool With Safety School” event will take place in the east parking lot of the Valley Mall between the main mall building and the building that houses Burlington and Dick’s Sporting Goods.

The event is being sponsored by Elite Towing & Recovery, Pepsi Co., and Burlington.  Donations of products were also receive from Wray’s Thriftway, Franz Bakery, Grocery Outlet, and Tree Top.

Agencies participating in the October 8th “Keeping Cool With Safety School” include the Yakima Police Department, the Union Gap Police Department, the Selah Police Department, the Yakima County Sheriff’s office, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Airlift Northwest, the U.S. Army, the Yakima Fire Department, the Selah Fire Department, and local ambulance service providers.
