Franklin Pool, Lions Pool to Open

The City of Yakima’s Franklin Pool, 2102 Tieton Drive, opened for the summer season on Thursday, June 15th. Events this year at Franklin Pool include a Dive ‘N Movie event at 8:30 pm on Friday, June 30th. “The community is invited to turn a day at the pool into a night at the movies,” said Parks & Recreation Manager Ken Wilkinson. “Watch Luca on a giant inflatable screen while floating on a tube under the stars at Franklin Pool.”

The movie is free with pool admission. Participants will need to bring their own tubes.

To close out the 2023 summer season, Franklin Pool will host its 17th annual Paws in the Pool event on Sunday, August 20th, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.  Dogs and their owners will get to enjoy the pool on the last day of the season just as they have for over a decade. Paws in the Pool admission is free for dogs, but owners pay regular admission fees.

Lions Pool, 509 W. Pine Street, is scheduled to re-open Monday, June 19th. Lions Pool, the City of Yakima’s indoor aquatics facility, has been closed since May 1st for improvements that include construction and installation of a new air handling and dehumidification system.

“We are excited to be able to re-open to the public and welcome them back,” said Recreation Program Supervisor Jason Zeller.

Yakima Parks & Recreation staff also conducted annual maintenance at Lions Pool during the 6-week closure. As a result, the maintenance closure of Lions Pool scheduled in August will not be required.
