Harman Center Parking Lot Hosts August Events

The community is invited to participate in a number of activities at the Harman Center this month, all taking place at the senior center’s parking lot.

“The Harman Center may be closed due to COVID-19 restrictions, but that isn’t keeping us from being creative and having some fun,” said Recreation Program Supervisor Leslie Richards.

Events planned for August at the Harman Center parking lot include:

  • Honk, if you LOVE a Senior! – Every Tuesday from 9:00 to 9:30 am

“Harman Center staff will be standing on the corner of 65th Avenue and Summitview Avenue waving at all who drive by to say hello and how much we miss our Harman Center participants,” said Richards. “It’s a way to spread positivity and kindness!”

  • Senior Parade – Thursday, August 13th from 10:00 to 11:00 am

Have fun, decorate your vehicle and get out for a drive through the Harman Center parking lot. The first 100 parade participants receive a coupon for a free treat. Route: Please drive up 65th Avenue from Chestnut Avenue. Follow the signs and cones for parade entrance and exit.

  • Chalk Art Festival – Thursday, August 20th

The theme for the family-friendly festival is “Summertime Fun.” Each group that wants to participate will be provided a numbered area of the parking lot to design. Then, Friday through Sunday, August 21st – 23rd, the public is invited to drive through the Harman Center parking lot and vote for their favorite chalk creation. Prizes will be awarded to top chalk art designs. Please be mindful to wear a mask and remember to social distance.
