Installation of Gas Main Will Interrupt Traffic

Traffic will be intermittently interrupted during the next two weeks while Cascade Natural Gas (CNG) crews begin Phase 2 of an 8-inch gas main installation.

On Monday, May 9th, CNG will start on Bonnie Doon Avenue, working west from 19th Avenue to 30th Avenue. Crews will then proceed south on 19th Avenue to Nob Hill Boulevard, then from 19th Avenue going east along the north side of Nob Hill to approximately Queen Avenue.

The Nob Hill portion involves a directional bore under 16th Avenue. The boring machine will sit at the Yakima Transit bus turn-out on Nob Hill Boulevard between 17th Avenue and 19th Avenue.

Starting Monday, May 16th the machine will occupy one lane of Nob Hill Boulevard westbound between 17th Avenue and 19th Avenue 24 hours a day for 10 days. Reader board signs are in place to alert traffic. The directional boring will take place between 7:00 pm and 6:00 am Monday thru Friday and will occupy both westbound lanes during the evening working hours. Westbound traffic will be reduced to one lane at the intersection of Nob Hill Boulevard and South 16th Avenue.

During the project, traffic delays in the area are likely to occur. Drivers should use alternate routes if possible until the project is completed

Access to homes and businesses in the area will be maintained while the project is underway.

The project may cause interruptions in scheduled refuse collection. Contact the City of Yakima Refuse Division at 509-575-6005 for more information.

As always, the schedule for this type of project is subject to change daily, dependant on weather, equipment failure, and emergencies.
