Neighborhood Forums to Continue This Week

The Yakima City Council continued its series of neighborhood forums last night, Wednesday, February 21st. The forum was at McClure Elementary School gymnasium and was hosted by Yakima City Councilmember Carmen Mendéz.

“We appreciate the public taking time to participate in these neighborhood forums,” said Mendéz. “Their comments help the City Council understand concerns about public safety issues. The community’s input about potential solutions to those issues is vital.”

Mendéz is also hosting a second forum tonight, Thursday, February 22nd, at 6:00 pm at Lewis & Clark Middle School gymnasium, 1114 Pierce Street. The forum will be in English with Spanish-language translation provided.

Other forums planned over the span of a week include a neighborhood forum this Saturday, February 24th, at 1:00 pm at Franklin Middle School, 410 S. 19th Avenue. Councilmember Kay Funk will host the forum, which will be in English with Spanish-language translation.

This month’s series of forums concludes Tuesday, February 27th, when Councilmember Dulce Gutierrez will host a neighborhood forum at Washington Middle School, 510 S. 9th Street. The forum will begin at 6:00 pm. It will be conducted in Spanish, with English-language translation provided.

The City Council announced plans last year for several neighborhood forums to be held throughout Yakima in order to gather feedback from community members as part of developing a long-term strategy addressing public safety issues.

The neighborhood forums this month will bring the overall total of forums to eight, including three last fall and one last summer.

Additional forums are currently being planned. They include one on Wednesday, March 7th, at 6:00 pm at Wesley United Methodist Church, 14 North 48th Avenue. It will be hosted by Yakima City Council members Holly Cousens and Brad Hill. It will be conducted in English with Spanish-language translation provided.
