Officer-Involved Shooting in Yakima

On April 16, 2022, at approximately 5:35 PM, YPD Officers located an adult male wanted for felony domestic violence charges. The suspect fled from officers on foot in the area of N. 18th Ave and Jerome. The suspect was armed with a firearm during the incident, threatening officers.

Officers located the suspect in the yard of a nearby residence where an armed stand-off occurred between the officers and the suspect. At least two YPD officers discharged their firearms in the officer involved shooting. The suspect was medically treated at the scene and transported to the hospital shortly after the incident occurred.

The scene was secured by officers and turned over to the Yakima Valley Special Investigations Unit (YVSIU), pursuant to State law. All further media releases related to the events of this incident will be handled by YVSIU. Any statements related to YPD personnel will be handled by Chief Murray’s Office.  

No YPD officers were injured during this incident. The status of the suspect is unknown at this time. The involved officers will be placed on paid administrative leave pending the YVSIU and administrative investigations, pursuant to standard protocol.
