Work has begun on the installation of an outdoor exercise gym at the City of Yakima’s Chesterley Park (40th Avenue and River Road). When completed, the gym will provide community members with a great way to work out outside.
The gym, designed by Kenguru Pro, features a French triple push-up bar, low parallel bars, a bench for abs, a triple-level bench, ground parallel bars, and other exercise equipment.
Last year, longtime Yakima business owner and philanthropist Forbes Mercy donated $115,000 to the City to pay for the outdoor gym.
“Thanks to the incredible generosity of Forbes Mercy, the outdoor gym will be a great addition to the activities available at Chesterley Park,” said Yakima Parks & Recreation Manager Ken Wilkinson. “Our parks keep getting better and better because people like Mr. Mercy are dedicated to improving our community. For that, we are grateful,” said Wilkison.
The City’s parks maintenance crew prepped the site at Chesterley Park recently, clearing the way for the installation of the outdoor gym. The gym is expected to be available for use by community members by early September.
